who we work with

We are working with Sweet treat 311, a local organization  that began for emergency relief by distributing hot food and sweets to individuals in Ogatsu.

Before the 60ft Tsunami hit the shores of Ogatsu town Ishinomaki-shi, Miyagi, in 2011, the town had  a thriving community of approximately 4,300 people. After the Tsunami, 70% of the town had been destroyed and it’s population had fallen by 25%.

Sweet Treat 311 continues to make a positive difference in the lives of children in Ogatsu. Since 2012,  they provide experiential learning opportunities through a new educational system, "Ogatsu Academy". They are currently working with the community to restore a 100 year old local school that survived the disaster. The old school re-opens this Fall as a newly born sustainable learning center: “Ogatsu School Restoration Project”.
